Charles: Your question about the BTU requirement made me curious and I did a quick and dirty calculation. I got a thermal energy requirement of approx. 1.3 million BTU (or 380 kWh) per US ton for the roasting process. So, if you were to use natural gas as fuel, the energy cost would be around $10per ton. Of course, the real numbers may be different, but a first theoretical approach gives you at least the order of magnitude we can expect. Here are my assumptions if somebody wants to double check this.

Specific heat of the ore: 1.0 kJ/kg K (assumed to be linear over the entire temp. range)
Roasting temperature: 1,064 Centigrades (the melting point of gold)
Overall efficiency of the roasting oven: 70%
conversions: 1 BTU = 1.055 kJ; 1 US ton = 900 kg.

Kim, I am glad to read in your recent post that the 1,000 lb. per day pilot plant is going to be up and running shortly. We sure could use some good news after what happened to IPM.

Kurt
