That's fascinating. In what type of vessel(s) did you circumnavigate the high seas?

As a kid I loved sailing but it was simple stuff like sunfish on a lake at summer camp. As a teenager I bought a larger version of that but still only on lakes, then got into myriad other things. Have two friends in the Miami area with sailboats, one is ~40 feet and mostly a bay toy. The other is ~60 feet and a seaworthy ship. I forget the brands. Also the bigger boat captain is more of a yachtsman and has sailed around the Caribbean a few times. Did a few 48-72 hour trips with him which was lots of fun playing Gilligan but doubt we were ever more than 50-60 miles offshore and in fair weather.

For me, the price doesn't sound outlandish but would be a waste. I could use the same amount to travel around the world for a year literally living like a king in most destinations and say that from prior experience of doing just that. ;-) Or better yet, buy one or two wristwatches I lust after and maybe even have a decent store of value to boot. To each his own and I respect your style.

FWIW, I got the price quote from here:
