I watched Happy Valley Season 3 over the long weekend and really enjoyed it, in spite of some surprising changes intone a few times. In fact, it almost changed genre. As ever, the central character was written so well, and the Sarah Lancashire pulls out every nuance. Her character somewhat reminds me of Saul from Better Call Saul -- both are surrounded by people who betray them, sometimes without meaning to, but both are kilometres ahead of any of anybody they interact with.

SPOILER ALERT

I figured by the story line including the central character's retirement that this would be the end of the series, which I am surprised to realize aired its first season all the way back in 2o14, but some of what went on in the last scenes seemed to imply there might be more.

SPOILER ALERT

I also watched what seems to be the final episode in the Inspector Montalbano series, and I am sad to report it went out with a whimper rather than a bang. A central part of the story line is an affair between Montalbano and a woman who is absurdly younger than him, and the rest of the characters have been reduced to little more than cliches. Sad...
