Re <<I guess you folks will be shipping stuff via solar. I'm afraid the concept of peak oil eludes you all. You can't frame it as a U.S. problem. Will those mainland Chinese and neighboring Indians all be driving a billion cars powered by what...hot air?

The first resource war of the 21st century is already on in Afghanistan and the U.S. has boots on the ground to help the deserving and long suffering people of Afghanistan develop their natural resources.

A distortion that would truly warm the heart of Mao Tsetung.>>

Turns out the answers to your questions tabled in 2010 are as below, looking like ...

(1) Solar? yes, in manner of mathematics per energy of all types fungible on way or another

(2) Chinese and Indians are sipping Russian oil and and taking in Natural Gas

(3) Afghanistan? Team US found goodies, lots of them, and Team China helping Afghanistan to develop the goodies

(4) Do not know about 'distortion', seems rather normal, predictable, and all as should be. Warm the heart of Mao? Likely yes.

Trust all good with you.
