Dear Mr. Gilder: MEMS = micro electro mechanical system I believe that one of the first commercially successful device of this type is a micro-accelerometer developed by ADI. Generally, MEMS devices are micropackaged sensors, motors, pumps, optoelectronic devices, etc... This field is well worth investigating for the future. However, at present MEMS activity appears concentrated in either big companies or pre-IPO startups, i.e., it is difficult to find investment ideas based on MEMS technology. Sincerely, Bernard Levy
