A heads up if you're having trouble installing a macOS update on your Mac. Try downloading the full installer from the Mac App Store and run that.

I was trying to update to Ventura 13.4.1 from 13.4 and twice had it get halfway through the process before going back to the Finder login to tell me my iMac had crashed on restart. The second time it even gave me a kernel panic.

I speculated the delta update for 13.4.1 was corrupted, so a trip to the Mac App Store for a fresh download and installation went off without a hitch. Thankfully Apple will let you download the full installer even though the delta update to that same version was already on my SSD and there is no way to easily delete it.

Apple no longer lets you download individual combo updaters as a unique file from the App Store, it all has to happen through System Preferences now. Download and installation took about 30 minutes overall.

I then updated to 13.4.1(c), part of Apple's new Security Response updates and it went very quickly. Installation took less than a minute, another reboot, and I'm back to a Mac running the current OS version once more.
