Wharfie, I call bullshit on some of the blog post's claims:
Furthermore, Liebreich states, "Setting aside the fact that in many cases clean energy competes on its own merits - for instance in the case of well-situated wind farms and Brazilian sugar-cane ethanol - this analysis shows that the global direct subsidy for fossil fuels is around ten times the subsidy for renewables.
If "well-situated wind farms" could compete on its own merits, i.e. without subsidies, then there would be no issues with the building of offshore wind farms. Just cut through the red tape and let Big Wind do the heavy lifting.

As for Brazilian sugar-cane ethanol, give me a break. Corn-based fuels have proven to be worse for climate change than the oil-based fuels they were supposed to replace.

Finally the amount of subsidies provided to renewable energy per unit of energy is much, much higher than that of fossil fuels. Some of that is made up by the higher efficiency of renewable energy, but the truth is that oil and natural gas is just that much more potent in terms of energy than solar and wind.
