A Bearish Turn of Events

The commercials greatly increased their net short positions in gold and silver by 26,000 contracts and 24,000 contracts respectively.

It's worth having a look at the COT report which is linked at the bottom of this post (and here) as well as checking out the tradingster links (also linked here for silver and gold) showing graphs of the increase in short positions.

Ed Steer's comments:

"From a COMEX futures market perspective, the set-up in gold continues to be bearish -- and it became a bit more so during the past reporting week."

"But the real precious metal story is still silver -- and all eyes should be firmly focused on that going forward."

Ted Butler wrote a piece last week titled "Code Red". I include a link here. The last four paragraphs of this article summarize his views.

Check out the graphs this week as they show the build up in net short positions more clearly. They are labelled "Position: Short" under the tradingster links here and here.
