I was thinking of the oil prices for some time. One should expect that a decline in oil prices may induce oil refineries to adopt better technology to improve productivity. The Wall Street must have thought for some time (before SMCI crashed), though, that oil prices would affect earnings of firms like SMCI and AZPN, given the decline in prices of these stocks long before earnings announcement. The WS was obviously wrong with respect to AZPN's earnings. This shows that the R&D expenses (not oil prices) was the main factor for SMCI's earnings, IMO.
