Hollywood knows that millions of people will turn out to see the right "product" even if it's rehashed dreck. This summer was an exception with two big movies also drawing critical acclaim. The industry model is to crank out content that generates cash flow. They don't really care what it is if someone pays for it. Look at the top grossing movies for the last ten years and see how many contain real people. Not a lot.
