Welcom to my garden jungle.

I wanted to take a picture of the lavender in my back yard. It has had a hard time coming back from last winter but seems to finally be making it. Its interspersed with some yellow day lilies which are going gangbusters as far as foliage goes. Not too many flowers though. The deer might have something to do with that.

I’ve found that landscape photos are more interesting when a person is in the picture. You get a better sense of perspective. Its easy to compare the surroundings to the size of the person. Since I live alone guess who winds up in the picture. Duh!!

Normally I do the rule of thids for person placement, but this time I plunked the chair in the available spot among the flowers and it turned out to be the center.

So I dumped the pic into photoshop and the first step was to run it through Levels. That got rid of any color cast. In this case green.

Next I selected the white blob in the center and reduced the brightness so it was recognizable. Then I applied a warming photo filter which gave me a nice summer tan and some color to my pinstripe shirt.

Next I switched to the background forest and once again reduced the brightness. Do-do-do-do…there be bears here . Then I used the blur tool to create a depth of field effect between foreground and background.

Lastly I gave the whole thing a shot of Vibrance and a shot of Contrast.

And so shazzam! we get the master gazing over his domain on a summer day.

I didn’t expect it to turn out so well. I just wanted a photo of the lavender.
