No, slavery wasn't complex. Never was. Abolitionism was right. Slavery was wrong. Period.

Lincoln did free the slaves and always wanted to .. that is he was always abolitionist at heart. He thought he couldn't immediately because of political realities. Too many people thought like you ... that abolitionism was radical.
