Paul- I'm new to this site so pardon me if I just jump right in and join this conversation. I'm a computer scientist for a living and I'm still predicting that at least one significant company in each industry will probably go under due to the Y2K problem.. This is because there are some idiots in the world (some of them work for the WSJ) that are saying the Y2K problem is just a made-up problem by the Gartner Group just to generate business. This couldn't be further from the truth. Fact is, the problem IS REAL but some CEO don't believe it and will not fund the resources to fix it until it's too late (probably Monday, Jan 3, 2000). He/She will get a call at 5:00 AM and the caller will spill the bad news...the computer systems (nationwide) are down...the CEO will say how long to fix it? Caller will tell him (if he's honest) 3-6 months (or more) and the CEO will expect to hear "a few hours.."...then, it's too late. These problems cannot be fixed in a hurry.. In the next year, many of these CEO will be convinced that the problem is real and the company will go into panic-mode and start hiring Y2K companies or other system integrators to fix the problem and and it will be an interesting 2 years...then the litigation will start after all of the computer systems fail... ..but that's just one man's opinion...
