Wharfie,
Actually, the person who disproves global warming theory will be the most renowned scientist of the 21st Century.
No one is going to disprove anything. It's not as black-and-white as whether the Earth revolves around the sun.

What's more likely to happen is a concerted effort to limit CO2 emissions, but they all fall short. Because you know, how are you going to convince 10B people on Earth to all live ascetically?

The climate will continue to change, and the people who originally tried to limit CO2 emissions will declare that we didn't do enough.

The world will not end, but there will be a lot of climate-related upheaval. We might as well accept that as inevitable, but that's a matter of politics, not science.

This song-n-dance will continue until one (or both) of the following happens:

1) We reach peak oil.

2) Alternative energy finally reaches critical mass.

We're far from #2, but I think we'll get there eventually.
