Doren,
1) It wasn't his community.
Yes it was. He regularly works there and knows the locals. It's just as much HIS community as anyone else's who lives in the area.
2) he was a vigilante
So?
3) we pay cops to defend us
And where were they?
4) the second amendment was not about defending your home from civil unrest
Wrong. It absolutely IS about defending your home, your community, and your country against all threats, foreign and domestic.

In fact, Kyle Rittenhouse was the very definition of a "well-regulated militia."

The only reason why it was stupid for him to go out there alone was a question of preparedness, not purpose.
You're naive. No "lesson" was taught. American's aren't smarter than anyone else.
If you don't learn the lessons from the Rittenhouse trial, you're going to repeat the mistakes that led to it in the first place.

We even discussed one of those lessons, namely whether it was wise for Rittenhouse to be a one-man Charles Bronson in the midst of an angry mob.

The other lesson is that, even if you are completely and 100% in the right, as Rittenhouse was, trials aren't necessarily going to go in your favor. The DA was guilty of misconduct. Kyle's original defense team was corrupt and had to be replaced. The judge, as Brumar pointed out, was right-leaning, but getting a judge that agrees with your politics is never a sure thing.

Most of all, you NEVER know how 12 jurors are going to decide.

This is a lesson for ALL armed defenders to be prepared for the fight after the fight.

(I tried to warn Brumar of this, but he's too stubborn to take advice from an Internet troll like me. Go figure.)
