Michael - Re: "Could National be having some difficulty focusing on a coherent strategy?"

I think not.

When NSM first announced the Cyrix buy -out, Halla talked almost exclusively of "system-on-a-chip" and low end x86 stuff.

To go after the high end/Pentium II/Slot x market will require an enormous R & D investment by NSM with historically "dicey" results.

The one minor success that Cyrix has enjoyed is the MediaGX - I believe NSM is trying to leverage that technology and stay out of Intel's gunsights. So I'd say, NSM has been consistent in this strategy.

However, Intel is working on integrated chip sets with graphics and these, coupled with cheap Covingtons, will allow Intel to continue their push into PROFITABLE sub $1000 PCs.

You may have noticed, also, that NSM's ne mantra seems to be "sub $500 PCs".

I can't wait for the media lemmings and Drew Peck-type analysts to pick up on that and trash Intel for not having a "sub $500 PC" strategy!

The more things change....
