It is interesting... American's are torn up about the newly homeless in Maui...

They know its not their fault... kind of... I hope most had adequate insurance. Now they have to fight for it probably... insurance companies don't have a good reputation for paying up on disasters. Those who lacked insurance... well they have the same problem people below have had for decades.

Would that it were American's had the same kind of empathy for people on the streets who also ended up there through no fault of their own:

Medical bills
Low IQs
Swindled by con men, spending their last money on a "Real Estate" school swindle
Bad investments
Medical bills and job loss at the same time
Insanity
Lack of adequate insurance even

Its hard to come back when you're in your 60s or 70s or even 40s... no one wants to hire a 40 year old let alone pay them enough to bounce back.

Maybe these people were just not up to the demands of our society. Born stupid... born poor... born in a bad way. Tired. Weary.

And yet they are "the enemy" to some people who have been more lucky in life. I know people were poor in their youth but were very lucky and ended up wealthy... who have absolutely no pity for the unfortunate poor. That is life in America. Ugly.

I have a friend who's almost homeless... its his own fault. He's got a Phd... he's lazy... he's miserable... he's above getting his fingers dirty.

But I have pity for him... I worked my ass off... but I still have pity for him.
