Mike,
-you wrote- "But it makes me think that lots of folks will be taking dead aim at their market share."
They may not have to aim. AOL may have shot itself in the foot.-g- This may or may not be a coincidence but on the day after the AOL announcement that they were going to raise their rates by $2, my service, for the very first time, started having busy signals. I interpret this as a bunch of AOL'ers checking out the competition -- and in droves. Unfortunately for AT&T(my ISP), there was not enough advanced warning of the thundering herd, so the AOL'ers probably got the busy signals too. The problem now seems a little better, but I fear that the AOL'ers came away thinking that internet service stinks elsewhere, just like on AOL. As I said, since I signed up with AT&T on November 19, 1997, I hadn't had one busy signal until the day after the AOL announcement. Coincidence?
Question: Did anyone else, not on AOL, notice a lot of busy signals while trying to connect to their internet service provider, just after the AOL announcement?
