In the 1980s Japan was closing on USA. I wondered how it would go. Japan financially failed. QUALCOMM and mobile and fibre cyberspace took off and continue to accelerate into extra somatic sentience aka artificial intelligence. Umpty $ttillions in value has been created in cyberspace giving USA another 30 years lease on life, though mostly squandered.
