Pkrbkr,
Isn't Florida population the oldest in the country so shouldn't its death rate be highest?
That's the going excuse, but even then, DeathSantis should have taken that into account and implemented more strict measures to protect the vulnerable.

Instead, he focused more on the "right" to walk around in public places without masks and without getting vaccinated. He was against most mandates, even those set by private businesses, and threatened to fine or even prosecute anyone who wanted to impose them.

That, combined with Florida being the go-to destination for retirees, helped make the state #10 in per-capita COVID deaths.

It's REALLY disingenuous to claim that "oh, it's just because of senior citizens dying at higher rates" when your own policies show a blatant disregard for that fact.

Not to mention the assumption that mandates just "don't work," because they sure seemed to work in California. Even New York, after getting hit by the brunt of the initial wave and being #1 for months, fell to #16.

It also says a lot when states like Arizona, New Mexico, and West By God Virginia top those charts even though they have some of the lowest population densities in America.
