DVD:

Many, many posters here and in the Fool worry way too much about this product. The days of being the sole marketer of your own products are numbered. Today we have licensing, co-branding, and co-manufacturing. Everyone is sleeping with everyone.

Recently the co-devlopers of DVD got their act togther and agreed to license their patents. Phillips will handle the paperwork and split the royalties among the co-devlopers.

In the majority of major computer stores here in the States Iomega products occupy more square feet of shelf space than any other brand name in the store. Not only can their products be found in highly visible locations, but frequently in several locations in the store.

When and if DVD becomes an economical "stuff moving, and stuff storage product" I am confident Iomega will be in the thick of things. My guess is they are already looking at potential products.

Recently a Fool poster said "major companies such as Intel, Motorola, etc. were salivating to get a piece of the IO action". I certainly believe this. After all look who is # 1
at the retail level.

Recently Iomega announced 3 million zips sold. Much controversy erupted over this announcement as many IO stockholders fretted over how many they could possibly sell in last 3 months. The announcement said more than 3 million. You can rest assured that a minimum of 5 million is in the bag. Kim Edwards would have not permitted PR to use 3 million since he previously announced the 5 million in June while denying they were committed to 8 million as inside manager had stated. My guess they have the orders to complete the 5,000,000 already.
