September Brings Seasonality Strength

For the fifth week in a row, the commercials decreased their net short position in gold, this time dramatically. While in silver the commercials increased their net short position by a hair. See here and here and here.

The MACD in the charts for gold, silver, copper, platinum and the hui all look positive. While for the DOW, SPX and oil, the MACD looks negative. The dollar has had a nice rally at the same time gold corrected in the time frame from May through August which proves the saying "sell in May and go away".

Ed Steer's comments:

On silver:

"So the set-up for a big rally in silver from a COMEX futures market perspective still remains wildly bullish ..."

On gold:

"Although not back at the white-hot bullish COMEX setting of early last fall...we're back to an extremely bullish set up in gold ..."

In general:

"All we can do now is just sit back and see how things unfold in the days and weeks ahead."

Check out the graphs this week as they show the build up in net short positions more clearly. They are labelled "Position: Short" under the tradingster links here and here.
