A change in our family has delayed this and last week’s report. We have an adorable new puppy who wants to go out or be entertained on what seems like a 24/7 basis. The sharp puppy teeth would shred this report if it was printed on paper.

Both the NASDAQ composite and the two biotech indices were in the black for the week. A few more weeks like this and perhaps the NASDAQ Biotech index will return to a net profit for the year.

In the individual listings, there wasn’t much that qualifies as a “spectacular” change. FULC had the largest return of the week (+22% of its original price), matched by second place ETON. FULC’s return thanks to the FDA lifting a clinical hold on their sickle cell disease treatment, though it still has a way to go to be in the black YTD (-30%), and a lot farther to reach its valuation in February (+60%) compared to its price at the start of the contest. ETON is just continuing its gains from the previous week (where it was also in second place, +24%). On the negative side of the ledger for the week, JSPR dropped -29% of it’s original price, not enough to have it lose its hold on the second place YTD performer (now +170%). CRVS another of our YTD winners (+140%) held the fourth place in last week’s losers (-11%).

For the contest portfolios generally it was, as you might expect, a positive week, a gain of $420 on average. Not near enough to erase the long train of lasses of the last few months, where the average portfolio has a YTD loss of -$5.8k. But it’s a good week when only three portfolios were in the red. ERIKOTTO claimed first place, up $3k for the week ($2.2k thanks to holding FULC).

There was a lot of movement in the YTD portfolio standings. As always, BLADERUNNER rises and falls with JSPR, and this week they fell, from second to fourth, so that both RKRW and ERIKOTTO moved up a notch to second and third. First place ALONER didn’t have a very good week either, dropping -$2.4k (-$1.3k from CRVS), so that they are only $4.7k ahead of the new second place finisher RKRW. Further down the list ARTHUR RADLEY’s fifth place finish for the week was enough to boost them from seventh to sixth, and TOMATO has returned to the top seven.
