Big question is will the demand for Alphas stay low in Compaq's hands? With DEC's recent announcement of new high speed versions of the Alpha and Microsoft's continued commitment to support Alpha with NT, will Compaq be able to make a market in Alphas worth having.

Imagine nonstop clusters of 4 or 8 or 16 CPU devices, running the fastest chip available. Can Compaq/Tandem/DEC sell enough of these, give more than a years head start over Merced, to have any market at all after Merced ships? And what if Merced is late?
