IT'S OFFICIAL: Toshiba to stop 16 MB DRAM production by April '99

TOKYO, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Toshiba Corp (TOKYO:6502) said on
Monday it would stop making 16 megabit dynamic random-access
memory (DRAM) chips by April 1999 due to falling profitability.
A company spokeswoman said Toshiba currently produces seven
million 16 megabit chips per month.
It will stop taking orders from customers from March this
year, she said.
Meanwhile, the company aims to increase production of 64
megabit DRAMs to three million per month, the spokeswoman said.
Monthly production of 64 megabit chips has averaged about two
million in recent months.
