Doren, I don't think you've ever been around homeless people. I have. I have been around homeless people, but that was years ago.
These days, the homeless crisis is exacerbated by the drug crisis. 95% of homeless people are hooked on drugs.
It shows, too. They randomly shout at people, sometimes even assaulting them. They don't give a F about where they set up their tents, or where they take a shit, or how they're going to get out of their situations.
There are many programs out there to try and find shelters and drug treatment programs for these homeless people, but there's a caveat. The homeless have to WANT to go into the shelters. That also means going clean, which they often don't want even with help.
More drastic measures, like forcing the homeless to move or cleaning up abandoned lots that have turned into homeless camp sites, are often met by protests from homeless advocates. They are the ones who force all of us to keep the homeless right where they are, in plain view and within spitting distance of homes, schools, businesses, and the rest of the community.
And yes, homelessness has been around for decades. But only in the past 8 years has it become worse. Much worse.
Left-wingers come up with all sorts of excuses, some of which hold grains of truth like rising costs of living. But they will NEVER take ownership of the problem, other than to put their faith in utopian solutions like "housing for all" and treating drug addiction with kid gloves.
