The video clearly shows that the dog was shot while running away from the cop = poor judgement by trigger happy cop. The fact that his action was supported by his superiors is not surprising. Cops are a tight knit family and family can do no wrong.

In fairness, every profession has its "bad apples". One of my best friends was a cop and thus I met a lot of them. The vast majority are really good / caring people.

Just met one of them very recently. He followed up on a complaint from some bozo for my dogs being off lead in the neighbouring golf course. Super polite young (well compared to me) fellow going by the book (initially). "I have to issue you a warning". My response: "You ok with dogs? If so, come on in". He did and got the usual Shepherd greeting which he handled surprisingly well. "You are good with dogs" "Yup, I have one in the cruiser". "Bring him in". 10 minutes later we had 3 very happy Shepherds on the (after hours) golf course chasing sticks.

I hope whoever called in the complaint, saw us. LOL
I suspect we'll see a lot more canine units in the golf course during off hours / season.
