Yesterday I was invited and went with friend Bill, pal of many decades, to visit Macau with him and his soon to be bride.
The friend be the same for whom this birthday party was held for Message 34384627
He has for decades been my neighbour, then e-mail roundtable participant, then friend, and for about a decade we took daily walks and shared weekly meals. Sometimes the Coconut would join us, and listened in on the dirty macro-talk. Jack liked much going to parties with his Ukrainian Russian daughter and son of second marriage who brackets Jack's age by one year.
I have heard much about Bill's blackjack games over the years and never showed curiosity or enthusiasm, because it is not my gig, and even as I inspected his nation-sized gold hoard stored at the HK govt facility, I never delved into where the gold came from. He played poker to get through graduate school, and I was foolish to not be curious.
Yesterday 2 couples and I got a Master Class of how it is done, from the hotel-provided complimentary helicopter ride and Rolls-Royce motorcade, to the freebie day suite, and yummy lunch, and in between times, two 1-hour sessions of front-roll-at-the-table seating where Bill simultaneously played six boxes of the game, starting with ~US$ 1,500 (HK$ 2,000 x 6) and never eating into his starting stake taking away ~US$ 35K as walk around money. Beats simultaneous chess by a long stretching.
Lunch was kept light, comprised of chilled caviar, baked escargot, sautéed frog legs, no main course and no dessert, helping to think straighter. No time for naps.
Beautiful art, the Master Class plays.
I am at a dangerous stage, where I think that w/ modicum of practice, I not only understand but 'can do it'.
I was mentally playing along during the post-lunch play hour and by golly, I think I have got it.
Now I just have to get a secondhand casino-grade blackjack card shuffling machine as Bill recommends) and load in six decks of cards and should be in new business.
Mission is to teach the Jack the way of the wandering blackjack player, which goes well with his blackbelt kung fu training, fencing discipline, and piano mind. Make Jack play for his college tuition.
