STOCKWATCH: Winbond/UMC -- 3 (SRAM prices recovery seen: analyst)

Dealers said the U.S. government decision will have only a psychological
impact on local SRAM makers.
"Riding on the negative leads, the electronics stocks will see technical
corrections after gains (over the past two weeks)," HSBC James Capel Taiwan
Ltd assistant research manager Alex Chen said.
The anti-dumping tax will not have a substantial negative impact as
around 97 pct of Taiwan-made SRAMs are supplied to domestic market.
"Taiwan SRAMS are mainly sold to local main board makers. Only a small
portion are shipped directly to overseas markets," Chen said.
He said local SRAM producers are expected to benefit from the U.S.
government decision as it is seen leading to a recovery in SRAM prices.
At 9:59 am, Winbond was off 2.00 twd at 51.00 on volume of 32.82 mln
shares and UMC lost 4.00 to 73.50 on 49.55 mln shares.

70 and a low of 8,673.82.
