Composite notes from 3 presentations
They had presentations on 8/10(CEO), 9/6(CFO), and 9/12(CFO). Interesting discussions of a lot of topics but not a lot of new info. Here's a few tidbits.
- Much focus on the retail apparel inventory build. Their goal is to have channel inventory of 6-8 weeks, it built to 10-12 weeks. They expect to make up 2-3 weeks in Q3 and the remainder in Q4, exiting the year with clean inventory.
- Discussed UPS deployment in more detail. Printers encode the labels, this was a big part of the time it took to deploy. UPS is now running tags.
- CEO discussed the NXP trials in more detail. They are seeking injunctive relief for the jury decision in their favor. Next trial is in Texas next month, it involves 3 patents of PI's, plus 3 that NXP bought.
- Explained the M800 as a "gem of a product". Went into a lot of detail on the process of of developing a new node(M700) and then making additional improvements within the node(M800). The 65nm node they are on was state of the art in 2006, indicating they have a long way to go moving down Moore's law.
- Discussed the health care opp in detail. Said one company caught 600 mistakes due to RAIN RFID. They are working with Cardinal Health, Healthsource Bergen(sp?), and one other I didn't catch.
- Due to the ease of using RAIN RFID to take inventory, they said some retailers take inventory twice/day.
- CFO said the 500M and 750M revenue targets discussed at Investor Day only included the 3 large categories(Retail apparel, Retail general merchandise, and Supply/Logistics). It did not include new potential like Auto, Pharma, and Food.
