So now I see your confusion... Yes, for each State there is a democratic vote where the majority rules... This is not the case with the federal government which was given its power by the States... Majority rule does not exist in federal elections that are held across all States... There is the electoral college which keeps it balanced between highly populated States and low populated States... Otherwise, only the heavily populated States would control the vote and the low populated State would have absolutely no say in the voting... For federal elections that are held across all States, the majority does not rule, the electoral college rules... A Constitutional Republic, which is a federal model, protects the rights of the individual... Here's a simple example of how the two would work: A horse was stolen so a posse goes looking for the horse thief... They come across a guy who they think stole the horse... What do they do? In a democracy, the majority rules, if the majority of the posse thinks this is the guy who stole the horse, then they hang him from the nearest tree... In a Constitutional Republic, they do nothing to the guy but take him back to town to the sheriff's office and they let the law handle the matter in court with any credible evidence if any... The guy has the right to defend himself and remains innocent of all charges until the evidence shows otherwise... I trust you can see the difference is like day and night... GZ
