Larry,,<<<The comparison with the USSR is weak but not, perhaps, ridiculous. Basically the
USSR did not threaten its neighbors with chemical or biological weapons. It did not
use such weapons on its own civilians en mass and was not governed by a
tempermental, sadistic wacko. Furthermore, our options, both "legally" and
operationally were much less with regard to the Soviet Union. Ditto for China.>>>

For years the propaganda machine attempted to make us believe all of the above about the USSR,, billions were spent on the military, and justified by this concocted threat. Actually it appears that the US won this arms race , however both countries went very deep into hock, until Russia said , that's it. Now the military needs a new enemy, which is being created, and sales pitched by the administration. I actually believe that if Russia did not quit, the US was very close behind in proximity to bankruptcy.
So now , because of the lack of interest pointed toward the USSR
you now think that really they were not so bad. A few years ago you would have been branded a pinko ,and told that you ought to be ashamed of yourself.
