Doren,
The asshole Palestinians were STUPID thinking that attacking Israel would have any positive effect. They attacked out of pure frustration over Israel's tactics that seeming to them would never end until they were pushed into the sea.
I agree with you here, though I'm still trying to assess whether Hamas was truly as st00pid as PooTin the mAsTeR cHeSs pLaYeR, or whether their st00pidity was truly out of frustration and desperation.

Because to me, this attack was too well-planned and well-executed for desperate insurgents.
For the time being, since I'm neutral on which side are the "bad guys"
Hamas already rendered moot the question of who are the "good guys" and who are the "bad guys."

Which is also ironic given that they are trying to achieve a political victory, which depends heavily on the outside world viewing them as the "good guys."

As for Israel, they may be the "bad guys" for all we know, but it doesn't matter anymore.

Hamas made it clear that might makes right. Now Israel will make it clear which side is mightier militarily.

And the poor people of Gaza will regret sticking around and trusting Hamas with their "defense."
