Monthly data on the origins of crude oil imports in July 2023 show that one country, Canada, exported more than one million barrels per day to the United States (see table below). The top five exporting countries accounted for 82% of United States crude oil imports in July while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 94% of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top five sources of U.S. crude oil imports for July were Canada (3.6 million b/d), Mexico (746,000 b/d), Saudi Arabia (392,000 b/d), Colombia (208,000 b/d), and Iraq (204,000 b/d). The remaining top ten sources, in order, were Ecuador (192,000 b/d), Brazil (190,000 b/d), Nigeria (164,000 b/d), Venezuela (153,000 b/d), and Guyana ( 65,000 b/d). Total crude oil imports averaged 6.3 million b/d in July, which was a decrease of 207,000 b/d from imports during June 2023.

Canada remained the largest exporter of total petroleum to the United States in July; exporting 4.1 million b/d. The second largest exporter of total petroleum was Mexico with 948,000 b/d.
