Big Moves on Geopolitical Risk

For the second week in a row, the commercials decreased their net short positions in silver and gold. See here and here and here.

Last week gold, the HUI, silver and WTIC had a strong bounce off their lows coinciding with increased tensions in the geopolitical landscape.

Copper is just off its low but still in downward channel.

Natgas had a pull back from a recent high which is not surprising as it was in overbought territory.


The US$ had a bounce after correcting from an overbought situation. The yield on 10 US treasuries has fallen from the high of the previous week.

The major stock indices have had a bounce and consolidated at the end of the week with the TSX having the strongest bounce of them all.

Ed Steer's comments:

On gold:

"Although hard to believe, the set-up for a big rally in gold is even more white-hot bullish than it is for silver, based on this last COT Report, ..."

On silver:

"Of course yesterday's price action could have been the start of Ted's 'big one' -- and we'll have to wait for a few more trading sessions to come and go to see if that's the case or not."
