WE have many excellent stock detectives here, so I thought I might bring to everyone's attention an amusing little stock called US Amateur Sports (USSP). This is a penny stock reporting company whose SEC filings are very professionally done, BUT...they do very little business and recently put out the most curious press release. It seems they have "offered" a sponsorship of one of their amateur sporting events to American Express. This offer was the subject of a major company press release. And you've heard me right--the news is that they have OFFERED a sponsorship to Amex, not that Amex has accepted the offer or that, even if they did, it would mean any significant revenue to the company. All of this seems about as significant as a press release announcing that the CEO is wearing a blue suit today, or that he's decided to enjoy tuna and a pickle for lunch. You can imagine what would happen if TVSI put out such a release; they'd be eaten alive on this thread. If anyone has a chance to look at the newly-started USSP thread here on SI (yes, this blockbuster announcement was the basis for someone starting a thread a few days ago warning us all not to miss this opportunity) , please let me know if I'm misunderstanding a major breakthrough announcement, or whether we have an entrant for the "Most Bizarre Press Release of 1998" contest.
