To further your analogy, I would think it would be rather hard for the pessimist to get a good grip on the optimist when the optimist has his head buried in the sand! Luckily, us realists come with shovels to clear out all the BS and free the optimists!

I for one would like to thank Jane for being a voice of reason in this badly tattered thread. I also appreciate David Irvine's post. It carries one heck of a lot more weight than posts that state things like "What the hell are you saying that for? We know we made $0.11. If we didn't...it wouldn't be Ira's fault anyway so shut-up."

I do contend Jane's point regarding the impact that these message boards have on the price of a stock. As an example check out the price history of Iomega...

I think that not too long ago message boards held no power over a given stock - but with the explosion on the internet and the dramatic increase of individual investors who want control over their own investments, I think that the impact of what is posted on these threads has far reaching and subtle effects on price. Add to the the advent of trading systems such as SOES and you have a whole new playing field with orders of magnatude higher numbers of players.

My point is - watch what you say. All comments - both negative and positive not only impact the image and credibility of the poster, but may have a much greater impact than you would believe.
