The General Markets Drop - Gold Shorts Increase

This week the commercials reversed their positions and added to their net short positions in both silver and gold. The change in gold was very large. See here and here and here.

Gold is approaching overbought territory. The HUI may be signalling a change in direction by ending the week on a low for the day on Friday.

Copper is consolidating at the bottom of it's downward channel.

WTIC continued its bounce. Natgas continued its correction from an overbought position.

The US$ is consolidating at the 106 level near its recent high. The yield on the 10 year US treasuries made new highs. With speculation that the Fed is at the end of its rate raising cycle, it may soon be a good time to buy bonds.

The major stock indices finished their bounce and dropped. The question here is will the recent lows hold?

Ed Steer's comments:

On gold:

"So we're at best market neutral in gold now from a COMEX futures market perspective."

On silver:

"But in the overall, it was a very positive COT Report in silver -- and far better than I was expecting"
