Re <<An Ivy League education, costing about $300,000., is close to worthless.>>

(1) cost
320K + airfares, say 2 - 3 trips per school year, and extra trips for kid to here and do that, at say $20k per annum, and all-in tallies to $400K costing

(2) as to worth
more interesting, my girl called me last week on her birthday and said "thank you dada"
after some discussion turns out that she was thanking me specifically for allowing her to take whatever courses she wants to according to her plan and wish, as opposed to pressing her to study some 'vocational training' stuff
I asked her what triggered the call as was unusual topic since I have always encouraged her to take whatever course she wants to
turns out her friend, an american girl, she / her, Jewish, is having problem w/ depression having just been cutoff by her dada's tuition flow for taking the sort of courses that Coconut is also taking, to do with literature, drama, theatre arts, art, art history, history, and film, as opposed to economics, etc etc whatever that would lead to a business path
note: yes, coconut do and shall take more courses in science (astronomy), mathematics (game theory of politics), investment (club), and such

(3) Coconut said to me
(i) to not worry, as she is applying for new internships and is still working on one of two past summer internships,
(ii) she is exploring to see how far she can get in the film arena, which is an investment business,
(iii) in the worst case, because she loves the courses she is taking, can well get into the masters degree program in film which would be FREE OF CHARGE :0), and
(iv) in any case can go to business / law schools but from the movie / entertainment angles as she, given that she loves her courses, is so far a straight-A student and can likely get into 'good' school, especially if she continues to work at 'good' inernships

(4) Under the circumstances the Coconut's education might be worth something, even as she is perfectly qualified to jump right into the film-investment business based on her past summer's work.

I do consider the Coconut somewhat special, and have ever since she won the equivalent of Olympic gold for English Composition Message 33533849

Re <<Send your kids to Hillsdale College. They have no connection to State or Federal Government.>>

Here you might be hitting a bullseye. The Mrs just returned to HK after spending three weeks in USA for show & tell to Jack, her own business school reunion, Coconut's Parents Weekend, and treating the nut to a weekend in NYC of foods and plays.

(1) The Mrs reports a few notables

(i) The LGBTQ2+ ... etc etc 'movement' is like a wildfire burning through the name-brand schools, and mere homosexual is passé unlike 'when we were in school'

(ii) Kids pointed out to her are getting hormone injections and such, especially in the humanities cohort (and far fewer in the nerds cohort (them be the people studying into midnight on Saturdays :0))))

(iii) Her HS friend (Julliard) is a top cosmetic surgeon, and biggest business segment is trans-surgery

(iv) Happenings are dire such that the parents' group (1,000+ Chinese MOTHERS with kids in any one of 10 schools :0)))))) she is a part is in 'near-panic' about kids' marital prospects

(v) Her friends with boys of and older than the nut are pinging the Mrs w/ 'we should create situations for "Peter and Coconut to meet" :0)

(vi) by those moms of coconut's childhood friends and acquaintances, 'Freddy still remembers Coconut from when she visited [wherever]'.

(2) The Mrs thinks that when it comes time for the Jack to go to college he should consider some other kind of school than his sister is attending

SAT testing protocol changing again, soon, to deliberately enable the less able kids, by essentially tagging actual computer-based testing to zip codes / HS name, so that less advantaged students get simpler questions. I might have misunderstood her and have not fact-checked. This was told her at a seminar.

If so, whoa!

Talk about social-scoring!
