| | | Dear New Feature Discussion participants,
We are planning to roll out a new default sort ordering of subjects on our forum pages soon.
Currently, the default ordering of subjects is by order of 7-day post count. That is to say, boards with more posts over the preceding 7-day period appear higher on the subject list than boards with fewer posts.
This ordering is a bit problematic. With the current ordering, a single member can make their board achieve a higher billing, or even the highest billing, simply by posting loads of messages. Unfortunately, this makes the board billing a bit gameable; in general boards with more posts are more popular, but not always.
To better reflect board popularity in the default sort ordering, we have introduced a new metric, board "popularity". This new metric takes into account not only the number of posts over the preceding 7-day period, but also improves a boards positioning on the list based upon the breadth of posting - the number of distinct Members participating in the subject board discussion over the same period.
In general, the updated default board sort positions will be similar to how they have been, however a few boards that have many posts by only one or so Members will undoubtedly appear lower, and those with more Members participating in the discussion will appear higher.
We believe this update will result in fairer, more accurate and balanced, and less gameable subject billings. Quality and breadth over quantity.
You will still be able to change the sort order displayed to any of several others, by clicking on the appropriate column header of the board list (7-day post count, subject name, total post count, ticker, etc.). This change will only affect the default board sort ordering shown.
Regards,
@Dima |
