K, I have just returned from visiting Applied Biotech, Inc.
ABI is a global diagnostics company at 10237 Flanders in Mira
Mesa (San Diego). They were founded in 1991. They reside in
a 40,000 square/ft, state-of-the-art facility. A lovely young
lady, Jennifer, an associate manager of marketing, gave me the
$10 tour for free. I was able to watch the assembly line and production lines in motion, very impressive. ABI manufactures products under many labels and sells products to distributors throughout the world. Although the pregnancy tests are their main product, marketing under the names SureStep(tm), SureStick(tm), and PregSlide(tm), they do manufacture other tests, such as: Strep A,H. Pylori, Mono, and Chlamydia. Additionally, ABI markets ovulation
predictor tests.
ABI is also heavily into the Drugs-of-abuse testing market.
According to the marketing literature provided by Jennifer,
they have developed a new Drug Screen Card that tests for up to
5 drugs-of-abuse at one time. This is manufactured on the SureStep
(tm) platform. Test results showing up as soon as 3 minutes, make
this product very important to the 'Drug Free Workplace' sought
by today's employers.
ABI has 29 products in the stables for sale, with more under
research. Like Trinity, their facility is buzzing with activity,
with shipping and manufacturing happening around the clock.
They appear highly successful and are very friendly to visitors.
