I don’t think this is necessarily true. It would be up to the new government in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas would no longer be in power - they would be a small, oppressed underground. The police and the state power in general would be directed against them.

Contrary to popular belief, Palestinians are people with normal human interests. They don’t spend their days dreaming of killing Jewish babies. They have to earn a living, support their families, succeed in life the best they can - under very difficult circumstances. Many - likely, most - would be happy to be relieved from the lawlessness of a Hamas dictatorship.

Edit — those 3-4 years after the removal of Hamas may become not a “pause” - but an opportunity,
