My wife ingests CBD oil regularly for her ME/CFS and gets this topical (left side) for "free" every so often as a gift. I occasionally use it if my right knee flares up. Other things to consider:

About 25 years ago I suffered knee pain from an old dirt-biking injury to my right knee. We had horses then so I decided to try a glucosamine sulfate (no MSM or Chondroitin) supplement. 500 mg twice daily completely relieved the pain after about a month. About 5 years later the pain re-appeared so I told my wife (who doles out our supplements). She replied "Oops...we ran out and I forgot to replace it". LOL! I went back on it and the pain disappeared again (sort of a double blind test).

A couple of years ago I began experiencing the knee pain again (even with the glucosamine). I started treating the problem area (left side of right knee) with Tiger Balm Red Ointment (extra strength). After a few weeks the pain disappeared so I discontinued regular treatment (but continued glucosamine).

At night I'm occasionally awakened with pain in that knee or my arthritic wrists. I treat that with either the CBD or Tiger Balm which allows me to get back to sleep. Both seem equally effective for me.

If you decide to try Tiger Balm, be sure to get the Amazon version made in Thailand (not Malaysia or other sources). I've never seen the one I use in US drug stores like CVS. The active ingredients (Camphor and Menthol) in the Thai version are about double that in other versions.
