The problem is governments get in the way.
If "clean energy" truly was a cheaper alternative to fossil fuels, then environmentalists wouldn't need government to push them so hard.

Instead, the free market would naturally gravitate toward these "superior" solutions.

Look at California, for example. If EVs were so superior vs. ICEs, then Gov. Newsom wouldn't have to create the 2035 EV-only mandate.

And it's not like Californians, if left to their own devices, wouldn't choose EVs over ICEs if it made sense. After all, the most popular car make here in California is Tesla by far.
