Eric,
I generate 100% of my own electricity with PV's and have for years. Pretty cheap to do it nowadays. Keeps my Model S happy. In fact it's charging at a 15 kW rate right now.
Either your solar panels are out in a big yard, or you've got a pretty big roof.

At 20W per ft2, you'd need at least 750 ft2 of solar panels to provide 15 kW of charging power.

Factor in your Pacific NW location, plus the fact that you're past the autumn equinox, and there's no way you're getting 100% of rated power from your PVs. That means you'd need at least 1000 ft2 of panels.

More likely is that not all of your 15 kW is coming from your PVs, and that you're averaging out the times you're drawing from the grid (or some battery) with the times you're providing power back to the grid (or some battery).
