Some of his best stuff were not air played on that one and captain fantastic albums.

Funny, I wasn't that Into him but my girlfriend in Jr high was and gave me some of his albums for my birthday. I listened to them maybe once and shelved them for years. In the mid 80s, after I was stationed in Asia and got the top of the line stereo equipment every GI gets while there, I dragged out all my albums. Many of my favorites were disappointing while others received a new appreciation. He had good session quality so I started enjoying them, especially the non hits. The recording quality and little effects were way ahead of their time on his captain fantastic album. On one, when he sings about the crackle on the speaker, they actually put a little noise on the track. LOL.

I've always wondered why jazz seems to have the best studio mixes. You would think rock/pop would have more money so would have better quality but jazz always sounds the best with a few rare exceptions. My stereo amp finally bit the dust a few years ago but I still have my Sony studio headphones from the 80s I paid $15 for and laugh whenever I see studio sessions on TV. They're usually using the same ones. Beats are crap. You could still get mine for around $35 until recently and now everyone finally discovered them and the prices shot up but they are amazing. Clean, crisp, balanced. You'll hear details you never knew were in a song.
