I have been 100% off grid for nearly 30 years. I told anyone who would listen that spending 50-70k for a state of the art system and going 100% off grid was a no brainer when interest rates were 2.5-3.5%. Very few listened. Hey, if someone wants to pay a utility $500/mo., who am I to stop them? In 10 years it will be $750. In 20 they will be paying $1,500 or more with inflation. My system will be paid off soon and free thereafter. 30 years ago the typical elect. bill here was $30/mo. Now it's $500. Cali is screwing over grid tied PV customers. I would never tie into the grid.
