| | | Pkrbkr, How many people do you know that haven't gotten covid? Most people I know have had it more than once and have been fully vaxxed. First of all, viruses mutate. That's a fact of biology.
Second, in hindsight, the vaccine paved the way toward the promised land of herd immunity. Getting infected by COVID without being vaccinated first was way too risky. Even an overall fatality rate of 2% was just too much, and that's not counting those who ended up with long COVID symptoms.
And third, the risks of serious side effects from the vaccine were WAY overblown. Even the J&J one-dose vaccine, which no one wanted because the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna were simply better, was much less risky than being unvaxxed.
Santa Clara County had the most draconian isolation rules in the country which more likely explains that data. The unvaxxed were living under the same draconian isolation rules as the vaxxed in Santa Clara County's data. Maybe the unvaxxed were more likely to flaunt the rules, but then again, people who claim the vaccine did nothing also claim that isolation rules and social distancing also did nothing.
With such a track record of being wrong, I'd rather listen to Santa Clara County's Dr. Sara Cody, even if she did err on the side of too much shutting down.
