Bill, We have schools here cranking out rote dummies by the thousand every month. They all apply to the usual jobs and usually get weeded out by a series of set tests to see what their true level of competence was.
I used to set people tests like move a block of data from one start address to another with an eprom programmer and editor, or: Screw up the Com addresses and IRqs and see how their solution path started at the basic and went forwrad. A lot of the dummies who just went to tech school because it says here you can get a job for $50,000 are just that, dummies. At home they watch TV. The good techs were at the front of the BBS queue, now they are unix junkies and pingers of assorted stripes, and they have had and solved all these problems in their own systems.
NT is getting to where Apple has been for years now. When NT gets there Apple will no longer have any entry path where they can say they are better than Wintels, and they will be finished(except for their captive niches, which will support a nice medium size profitable company a bit smaller than Apple is now)
