All Eyes on this Week's Treasury Auction

Switching the latest trend, the commercials decreased their net short position in gold and added to their short position in silver. Both changes were small. See here and here and here.

Gold bounced off its 200 dma. The HUI followed suit and bounced above its 50 dma. Silver had a strong rally to the $23.85 level.

Copper bounced to $3.74 and is trading around its 50 dma.

Platinum and palladium both bounced from their recent lows.

WTIC and natgas made new lows for this move. Gareth Soloway is calling natgas a buy for a short term trade from the $3.00 level.

The rally in the US$ stalled and it dropped from the 105 level to 103.57. The yield on the 10 year US treasuries dropped from 4.65 to 4.44 ahead of another US treasury auction.

Of the market indices the TSX rallied the strongest with the DOW consolidating at its highs and the SPX and QQQ creeping up making news highs for this move.

Ed Steer's comments:

On gold:

"From a COMEX futures market perspective, the set-up in gold is still far away from bullish ..."

On silver:

"The set-up from a COMEX futures market perspective for a continuing and strong rally in silver remains firmly in place...at the discretion of the Big 2 shorts, of course. "
